In 2011, we were included in The American Lawyer's annual A-List, marking the eighth consecutive year that the firm has been ranked. The A-List is AmLaw's effort to "look beyond pure dollars to quantify the qualities that define the 20 most successful law firms in America", by scoring firms on four factors: revenue per lawyer, pro bono commitment, diversity among lawyers, and associate satisfaction.

In 2008, our Litigation Department was recognized as one of the top litigation practices in the country in the biennial Litigation Department of the Year survey. Additionally, our IP Litigation practice was one of three finalists honored in the survey.

We were named to the BTI Client Service All-Star 30 list in 2010, an annual report compiled by BTI Consulting, a Boston-based research company and management consulting firm. We ranked eighth nationwide on the list, which was based on interviews with hundreds of corporate counsel at Fortune 1000 companies to discover how they define exceptional service and which law firms epitomize this high standard. 2010 marks the fourth year we have made the list.

In the inaugural "Best Law Firms" report published by U.S. News & World Report and Best Lawyers, we ranked in the top 10 law firms nationwide - out of more than 8,500 firms - based on the number of top-tier national rankings we earned. Our top-tier national rankings included such cornerstone areas as Banking & Finance, Capital Markets, Commercial Litigation, IP, Employment and Labor, Energy, Securitization/ Structured Finance, and Tax. We also had more top-tier nationwide rankings than any firm on the West Coast.

Chambers Global recognized 30 of our practice areas in its 2011 guide, including Global rankings in such core areas as Capital Markets, Data Protection, Intellectual Property, Outsourcing, and Technology.

In 2011, we were ranked among the leading practices nationally and regionally in 42 areas, including the firm's core practice areas: Intellectual Property, Corporate/M&A, Capital Markets, Litigation and Financial Services.

Chambers Asia recommended 26 of our practice areas in its 2011 guide.

Chambers & Partners honored our Tokyo office with its 2011 Japan International Firm of the Year award, at its annual Asia-Pacific Awards ceremony. The award recognizes our pre-eminence in Japan, and reflects our notable achievements over the past 12 months, including outstanding work, impressive strategic growth, and excellence in client service.

Legal 500 US recommended 44 of our practice areas in its 2011 guide, including our core practice areas: Intellectual Property, Corporate M&A, Capital Markets, Litigation and Financial Services.

In 2010-2011, PLC Which lawyer? recognized us as one of the top law firms in the U.S. in 19 practice areas; in Japan, for 10 practice areas; in China, for four practice areas; in Hong Kong, for two practice areas; and in England & Wales, for four practice areas.

In 2010 and 2009, PLC Which lawyer? Included us in the "Global 50," the 50 law firms that received the greatest number of recommendations during PLC's research process. In PLC Which lawyer?'s cross-border Super League handbooks, we were ranked among the Top 10 Global Life Sciences Law Firms in 2011, the Top 10 Global Environmental Law Firms and the Top 15 Global IP/IT & Telecoms Law Firms in 2009, and among the Top 25 Global Competition Law Firms in 2008, with attorneys across the U.S., China, Hong Kong, Japan and Europe receiving recommendations.

In 2011, our Litigation practice received national recommendations in the areas of Appellate, General Commercial, Intellectual Property, Product Liability and Securities Litigation.

For 2011, 130 attorneys from around our domestic offices have been named by their peers to the Best Lawyers in America directory.

In the inaugural (2010) edition of the Financial Times U.S. Innovative Lawyers Report, the publication recognized Morrison & Foerster for legal innovation in our representation of Novell against SCO in its long battle over the Unix operating system.

Global Finance magazine selected us as the "Best Legal Adviser in Asia" as part of its "World's Best Investment Banks" awards. We won this award two years in a row, in 2007 and 2008.

In 2011, IFLR1000 ranked us in Capital Markets, Financial Services Regulatory, Private Equity and Project Finance in the U.S., in Banking, Capital Markets, M&A, and Project Finance in Japan, in Capital Markets, M&A and Private Equity in China, and in Bank Lending in the United Kingdom.

In 2011, IFLR Magazine awarded us "Securitisation Team of the Year" at the Americas Awards for our innovative work in the area. Bruce Alan Mann was also honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his contributions to the profession and the exceptional caliber of his securities and M&A work.

In 2011, we won IFLR Magazine’s "M&A Deal of the Year" award at the Asia Awards for our work on the Nippon Mining/Nippon Oil deal, one of the largest and most complex M&A transactions in Japanese history.

We were ranked #2 "Most Active Patent Litigation Practice" for Total U.S. District Court Cases, and #3 "Most Active Patent Litigation Practice" for both Defendants and Plaintiffs, in IP Law & Business’s, bi-annual Patent Litigation Survey in 2008.

In 2010, we were awarded "Law Firm of the Year" by M&A Advisor. The award recognized our work on many high-profile deals in 2010, which include working with Intel on a series of strategic acquisitions, and advising Astellas Pharma Inc. on its acquisition of OSI Pharmaceuticals Inc., the first-ever successful unsolicited tender offer by a Japanese company in the U.S.

We were ranked Tier 1 for Foreign Firms in Japan, and ranked Tier 2 for the United States in Bio Life Sciences, Patent Prosecution, ITC, and Copyright work, in Managing Intellectual Property's annual World IP Survey in 2010.

We were included on the National Law Journal's Appellate Hot List 2009, in recognition of our contributions to the most important appeals of the year.

We were named 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2011 Law Firm of the Year: Americas by Structured Products magazine for our innovative capital markets, derivatives and structured products work.
